The Quonochontaug East Beach Water Association Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is provided annually to all customers of our water system to update them on water quality.  The format and content of the report are dictated by the RIDOH and EPA.   If you wish a paper copy mailed to you, please let us know.

The CCR points out two important concerns with our water system:

·        Seriously elevated levels of Nitrate (3.8 ppm - 7.6ppm vs. 10ppm limit)

·        The water source is at MODERATE RISK of contamination.

It is critical that each and every one of us understand the implications of these points.  If the nitrate contamination levels continue to increase, we will be forced  to install a treatment system at a cost of about $100,000 and an annual operating cost of at least an additional $50,000/year.  This will more than double your current water bill.   Lawn fertilizers and chemicals are significant contributors to this nitrate contamination.  Lawn watering from any well steals water from the aquifer. This water is critical for the dilution and flushing of the Nitrate and other contaminates from the aquifer.  Changing our lawn care habits is the simplest, quickest, and cheapest way to reduce the Nitrate levels.  The only alternative is mandating that all septic systems be upgraded to denitrification systems.  Please help us solve this problem now.
